Last year’s multi-core update to Yuzu brought significant boosts to playability in more intensive titles like Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While MercurySteam’s art direction is faultless here, visuals don’t really push the Switch hardware much, which could explain how well the game runs on Yuzu and Ryujinx. As a side-scroller, it’s more of a direct continuation to the original Metroid games on the NES and SNES. In terms of compatibility and performance, Yuzu and its competitor Ryujinx are now at a point today where flagship titles like Metroid Dread run at a locked 4K/60 FPS mere days after the official launch on Switch. The Yuzu emulator on PC has come very far over the past couple years of development.
